Laura Genovese, CAE

Laura is a cheerful person who is enthusiastic about her career. Having a true desire to help improve and enhance the world we live in, Laura has found great joy in working with volunteers, board members, and organizations that exist to enrich lives, inspire innovation, amplify the workforce, and make the world an (even more) exciting place to live in. She has spent 10 years learning about and working in the Association Management world with the great opportunity to work with many wonderful organizations.

Starting out in a small Association Management Company in Old Town, Alexandria, Laura started her career as an account coordinator where she implemented all administrative details for every aspect of an organization: member support/outreach, creating event materials, managing marketing emails, taking minutes at board meetings. Those tasks might have seemed tedious to most, but Laura soaked it all in. She loved attending board meetings to learn how the organizations ran and how the leaders approached challenges when they arose. She observed how volunteers ran their events (noticing successful techniques and processes). It was during that time when she worked at the ground level of the organizations that allowed her to truly grasp the extent of what goes into making an organization run smoothly and successfully. Organizations need grand ideas, but they also need smart people who can put those grand ideas into effect.

Through the years and the promotions, Laura gained responsibilities and opportunities to become more hands on with her organizations. Through offering guidance and ideas, participating in conversations as a partner, and developing strong relationships with her board members, Laura reached a new level of engagement within her career.

After working for an Association Management Company for six years, Laura decided to try things from a different angle and join the internal staff of a large trade association. Having developed her skills in project management, content & speaker management, and onsite production, she was brought on to work on the educational programming for the NACS Show, one of the top 40 trade shows in the country attracting over 23,000 industry stakeholders from around the world. Getting the chance to work with some of the greatest OD professionals, event planners and education experts, Laura poured her heart into creating excellent relationships with speakers/vendors/endowers and developing enhanced processes to make the education offering as successful and sustainable as possible.

In addition to her love for her career, Laura also has a passion for volunteering. Laura joined the board of directors of the American Marketing Association of DC (AMADC) in June 2017 where she served as VP of District Current, the brand new young professionals community within AMADC. She had the pleasure of taking that brand new concept and developing a committee, identity, and strategy that the organization is excited to continue building! Laura now serves as the Chief Programming Officer, responsible for creating and managing the educational programming offer for the AMADC community.

Laura received her B.A. in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from George Mason University and holds her CAE certification from the American Society of Association Executives.
